High Quality Inclusive Teaching

SEND Star of the Week:

Saira

Abi in Science uses a visual timetable with her students so they know what task to do and when to do them.

Lyndsey in Drama uses clear expectations and uses the same routines each week. Consistency builds confidence for all students.

Euan in Drama has been praised by our EP for his consistent approach for students with SEND. He has assigned roles to some of our 'key' students so they are always involved and know what is expected of them.

We all know that students with SEND enjoy kinesthetic activities: Annabel in Science created a crossword for 8x4 and a treasure hunt to find the answers around the room. Students  loved this.

Sara in Science has implemented an activity called “Going shopping” for her Y10 students to help them prepare for 6 mark questions. Students move around the classroom and share ideas with others (snowball) which enables them to pick up points

Majdeline in MFL always reflects on the lesson with the TA; she ascertains what went well and asks the TA for advice for next time.

Rhonda scans the class to pick up on students who are not engaging and always responds quickly. She directs and deploys the TA who comments “I feel really well utilised in her lessons”.

Silence for SEND:

it's so important that all students have some quiet time each lesson to reflect on their learning and are able to concentrate.

James in English asks the TA to circulate the class so he can spend 1:1 time with a student who has an EHCP.

Here are great examples of teaching for our students with SEND

It has been great to see widespread use of the Task Sheet shared by Helen Tongue. This supports behaviour management as well as helping students to to plan the time they spend on tasks. Great preparation for the new examinations!

Lily in Art has developed a sensitive questioning  technique to address wrong answers and elicit correct ones. Peer support to promote learning.

Claire in Maths supports her Year 11 Maths SEND group by tailoring activities to each student's needs.

David in DT uses a visualiser to demonstrate various techniques so all students are included
